HI, I am flying in from outside the country to see ONCE via either JFK or La Guardia. From the airport what are my best options to travel to Northpoint NY and the John W. Engeman Theater? Car rental? Train? Bus? I will look for lodging in the area. I am thinking late February, or early March, but will buy in advance. Just need to plan my travel route and lodging. Thanks for your assistance!!

The most economical way to get to Northport is the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) from Penn Station in Manhattan. If you go to JFK you can take the airtrain to the Jamaica Station LIRR and then transfer to a train to Norhtport. A quick cab ride will get you to the Engemann. There is not convenient lodging in Northport (you will have to drive atleast 20 minutes away) so actually, if you can the best thing to do is to rent a car at the airport so that you have it during your stay. Aside from the LIRR public transportation on Long Island is almost non existent.

Call the theater! There have been times they partner with places right on Main ST. There are some nice places - Rockin' Fish is very popular, (though i haven't made it there yet). Main Street Cafe is great, good food and owners, etc. Skippers is a pub with a long history of 'good'! and 'round the bend, on Woodbine, is my old favorite The Ritz. Enjoy Northport!!
Trying to plan a trip to Northport and see a show at the JW Engeman Theater, this or next month. Travelling from Virginia, planning on using the train. It appears we can take Amtrak to Penn Station, then use the Long Island Railroad to get to Northport - Correct? Suggestions. Once in Northport, suggestions on where to stay? Planning to use taxis, are they available? Really don't want to fly, rent car or drive up from Virginia. Thanks - Lobo

Yes you can take the train to Northport and then use a cab to get to the theater. I don't know of any hotels/motels in downtown Northport but you could look up Huntington or East Northport which are both close towns. Renting a car and driving from Virginia would be a nice trip as well. It would be advantageous to have a car depending upon how long you were staying in the Northport area. The North Shore of Long Island is beautiful and there are lots of things to do.
