The former Arkansas police chief who escaped prison while serving a 30-year sentence for murder and rape has been recaptured, authorities said.
Arkansas authorities on Tuesday released a photo rendering of a convicted murderer and former police chief known as the “Devil in the Ozarks " as the search for the escaped inmate entered its second week.
Hardin escaped the North Central Unit in Calico Rock on Sunday, May 25, in broad daylight, according to ADC. His escape unsettled communities across the state due to his intense criminal history involving rape and murder. Hardin was also a former police chief and had an extensive background in law enforcement.
A U.S. Border Patrol tactical unit from Texas, known as BORTAC, has been deployed to Arkansas to assist in the manhunt for Grant Hardin, officials said.
CALICO ROCK, Ark. — On June 6, the Stone County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Grant Hardin, the escaped inmate and convicted murderer and rapist who once served as the police chief in Gateway, Arkansas, has been found and taken into custody.
On June 2, law enforcement filed a search warrant application seeking data related to cell towers near the North Central Unit.
