The New York Islanders have hired Mathieu Darche as their next general manager. TSN's Pierre LeBrun first reported the hire. Darche will succeed Lou Lamoriello, who had run New York's front office from 2018-19. The Islanders let Lamoriello go after they missed the playoffs this season.
But in the short term, Brendan Shanahan isn’t going to New York and Marc Bergevin is obviously in L.A. to stay. Bottom line? No big hires are imminent and Darche is in charge.
The Islanders have picked their new GM, hiring Mathieu Darche away from the Tampa Bay Lightning, per multiple reports.
As Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on Friday's edition of 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, this was not the first time the Islanders made an attempt to speak with Shanahan.
Darche has served as the Lightning's assistant GM for the past three seasons and worked for Tampa Bay for years.
