Tony Award nominations have arrived for a season studded with movie and television stars, with nods going to George Clooney, Sarah Snook and Bob Odenkirk in their debuts. But other favourites, like Oscar-winners Denzel Washington and Kieran Culkin,

Culkin notably won an Oscar in March for “A Real Pain” and an Emmy last year for “Succession.” Other stars who were snubbed by the Tonys include Idina Menzel for “Redwood,” Jim Parsons for “Our Town,” Robert Downey Jr. for “McNeal” and Julianna Margulies for “Left on Tenth.”

Well, big weekly grosses and even bigger stars can’t guarantee a Tony Award nomination. Broadway does what Broadway wants, so no Best Play nominations (or anything else) for huge moneymaker Othello, and no Best Play noms for Good Night,
