The Red Sox optioned Campbell to Worcester this past Friday after he struggled both offensively and defensively. The 22-year-old batted .223 with a .319 on-base percentage, .345 slugging percentage and .664 OPS in 67 games (263 plate appearances) for Boston. He had negative-15 defensive runs saved in 471 ⅔ innings at second base.

Red Sox rookie Kristian Campbell was sent down to Triple-A Worcester on Friday, and will have an unusual assignment before he heads back to the big leagues.

In his second rehab start at AAA Worcester, Tanner Houck showed he’ll still need some more time before rejoining the Red Sox. The 28-year-old righty went just 1 2/3 innings on Tuesday night at Scranton/Wilks-Barre, allowing three hits, two walks, and four earned runs in the 6-5 loss for the WooSox.
