With Toothless and Hiccup returning to theaters this summer, director Dean DeBlois is proud to "give a bit of depth" to certain elements from the 2010 animated original.

The clip showcases some stunning visuals as well as new looks at main characters like Butler's Chief Stoick the Vast and Hiccup's love interest Astrid played by Nico Parker. The footage also includes sneak peeks at some of the best moments from the animated film, such as Hiccup making a prosthetic tail fin to fix Toothless' broken tail.

Chris Sanders and I were brought in as a replacement writer and director team on that first film,” DeBlois tells Empire at the release of the How To Train Your Dragon trailer. “We had 15 months to rewrite and push the movie through production.
