In 2009, Minecraft was initially developed with Java for usage exclusively on computers. Since then, Mojang has released various game versions compatible with different devices and systems.

One of the longest-running divides in the Minecraft community is the one between Java and Bedrock. Java is the original version of the game, while Bedrock is the Microsoft-funded rewrite in C++.

While there is not a ton of differences between Java and Bedrock, one thing is key to know. Java is only for PC, Mac or Linux players and crossplay is not supported.

While Bedrock Edition is typically seen as more stable and has crossplay enabled, Java Edition can be played with much bigger servers and has more mods available to download.
