A pair of Democratic senators is touting tens of millions of dollars in federal funding they “secured” for local projects in their home state despite voting against the legislation. Opposing a White House-brokered funding deal that cleared Congress on Tuesday and was signed into law by President Donald Trump didn’t stop Sens.

Senate leaders have a bipartisan funding deal in hand but it remains to be seen whether they will avert a costly government shutdown as the clock ticks down toward Friday’s midnight deadline.

The full Senate signed off on his nomination in a largely party-line roll call, 51-45, with several senators sitting it out, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.
