Windows 11 finally fixes the long-broken “Update and shut down” option that has plagued me for years
A small but long‑standing bug in Windows’ shutdown process has been resolved, ending years of frustration for users.
The fix is arriving through the optional KB5067036 update for Windows 11 25H2, which Microsoft began rolling out last week.
The most reported Windows Update bug in the operating system has finally been fixed, but only for Windows 11 users.
Starting with Windows 11 25H2 Build 26200.7019 (or 26100.7019 on 24H2) and newer, “Update and shut down" will shut down, not reboot.

The fix for this bug, which has persisted for about a decade, comes just after Microsoft ends Windows 10 support.
