A number of flood warnings are in place across Yorkshire after Storm Claudia brought torrential rain, while rail services have also been affected. The Environment Agency (EA) said flooding was expected on the River Aire in Castleford, along the River Ouse in York, on the River Nidd in Hunsingore and in Beighton near Sheffield.
Storm Claudia originated in the Canary Islands as it swept across Tenerife yesterday with intense rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and rough seas. Although it caused relatively few serious incidents, schools and other establishments closed to ensure safety.
