The New Orleans Pelicans moved up in the 2025 NBA draft to select Derik Queen, a power forward out of Maryland. The Pelicans acquired the No. 13 pick from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for the No. 23 pick and an unprotected 2026 first-rounder.

Derik Queen was selected 13th overall by Atlanta before reportedly being traded to New Orleans. Atlanta continued to make offseason moves, this time with a Draft-night trade agreement that sends 13th overall pick Derik Queen to the Pelicans, per Shams Charania of ESPN.
