Crown Princess Mette-Marit's birthday fell on the day after major news for her family. On Aug. 18, Norway's state prosecutor charged her son Marius with 32 crimes, including one count of rape with sexual intercourse and three counts of rape without intercourse, CBS and Reuters reported.

Marius Borg Høiby, 28, the son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been charged with 32 offences including rape, domestic violence and assault.

Crown Prince Haakon of Norway has spoken out as his stepson faces 32 criminal abuse charges. Norwegian outlet Se og Hør previously reported that Marius Borg Høiby, 27, was first arrested in August 2024 following accusations that he "attacked" a 20-year-old woman "psychologically and physically".
