The Rossoneri were hoping to salvage their disappointing season by winning the Coppa Italia at the Stadio Olimpico. After getting past both Roma and Inter Milan on the road to the final, AC Milan seemed poised to lift the trophy for the first time since 2003.

It almost certainly ends the Sergio Conceicao era at the Rossoneri, something which was probably likely even with a Coppa Italia win. So whilst there is hope for what the new era could look like, there is also a sense of fear about what could be on the cards heading into a Europe-less summer.
