The last in a long train of storms will bring snow and ice to the Mid-Atlantic and Carolinas on Wednesday. While Washington will be near the northern edge of the storm starting late in the morning — with a dusting to a half-inch of snow possible in the District and areas to the south by the evening — impacts will be moderate to major farther south.

A strong winter storm moved through the Mid-Atlantic on Wednesday, bringing rare snowfall to southeastern Virginia and parts of Maryland while creating hazardous travel conditions ahead of another round of snow expected Thursday morning.

There are still a lot of question marks with a winter storm that will bring snow to Virginia on Wednesday. The Shenandoah Valley appears to be out of the storm’s bullseye with the region likely getting less snow due to a trending southern track, according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Tom Kines.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol says it responded to nearly 1,200 collisions statewide on Wednesday. Virginia State Police reported early Thursday that there had been nearly 500 crashes statewide.

Snow and ice expected across central and eastern parts of the state through Wednesday into Thursday. Stay off the roads if you can.

Snow continued to fall in parts of Virginia and North Carolina on Feb. 20, a day after a winter storm dumped a foot of snow on coastal Virginia.
