About 100 people have gathered for a wreath-laying service to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day). VJ day honours the conflict in the far east before World War Two ended, when atomic bombs fell on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, leading to Japan's surrender on 15 August 1945.

A series of events will be held in northern Lincolnshire to mark the 80th anniversary of the surrender of Imperial Japan on August 15, 1945 and what was effectively the end of the Second World War. The ceremonies will honour those who served in the Far East months after the end of war in Europe in three months earlier.

Coun Josie Pritchard, the council’s armed forces champion, said: “On VJ Day, we reflect on the heavy price paid by so many in the pursuit of the freedom that we enjoy today. "We encourage our community to come together to remember those who fought in the Far East.
