An induction-motor-powered platform, by contrast, would be optimised for the job at hand. It could launch the plane at higher speed, letting it climb faster. That would save fuel, too.

The idea is that because aeroplane engines are optimised for high-altitude cruising, it makes sense for a specialised machine, powered by an induction motor, to take charge of the take-off.
