Vegas Golden Knights veteran defenceman Alex Pietrangelo has withdrawn from the 4 Nations Face-Off, the team announced Sunday.

Golden Knights defenseman Alex Pietrangelo said it was a tough decision to back out of the 4 Nations Face-Off in February, but he wants time to heal.

The Vegas Golden Knights announced that William Karlsson will be out on a week-to-week basis with a lower-body injury.

Pietrangelo is the first player to withdraw from the tournament, which also features the United States, Sweden and Finland. Sweden is expected to make some lineup changes, though, with goaltenders Jacob Markstrom and Linus Ullmark, and forward William Karlsson, all currently injured.
