The Hughes Fire has burned more than 9,000 acres Wednesday around the Castaic Lake in Los Angeles County on Wednesday continuing a devastating wave of Southern California wildfires fueled by dry vegetation and Santa Ana winds.

The Hughes Fire has spread to over 8,000 acres in Los Angeles County's Castaic area on Wednesday as dry vegetation and brutal Santa Ana winds continue to boost fire conditions across Southern California.

The blaze was reported just after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 in the area of Lake Hughes Road near the 5 Freeway, according to Cal Fire.

Southern California is battling the Hughes Fire, which broke out around 11 a.m. near Lake Hughes Road, close to the 5 Freeway and Castaic Lake in Los Angeles County.

A new wildfire that erupted in northern Los Angeles County triggered tens of thousands of evacuation orders and warnings.

A new inferno has ignited in Southern California and quickly burned 5,000 acres and causes thousands of residents to evacuate from their homes. The Hughes Fire erupted near Lake Hughes Road just north of Castaic shortly before 11am on Wednesday. It quickly moved west toward the Interstate 5 highway and north to the area below Sanberg.
