The Pittsburgh Pirates bolstered their pitching staff Saturday, inking journeyman starting pitcher Andrew Heaney to a one-year contract. Heaney, 33, is guaranteed $5.5 million with additional performance incentives.
The Pirates confirmed that the Cincinnati native, who appeared in parts of seven major league seasons, died of a heart attack in a social media post Thursday.
Since then, Zastryzny has had brief stints with the New York Mets, Los Angeles Angels, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Milwaukee Brewers. The Cubs claimed him off waivers from Milwaukee in November.
