A 19-year-old from Menasha was charged with arson following the fire, the City of Fond du Lac Police Department said
A 19-year-old man has been accused of setting a fire at a building that includes Wisconsin Rep. Glenn Grothman's office because of the short-lived TikTok ban. The Fond du Lac Police Department said the incident happened around 1 a.m. on Sunday at a strip mall at 525 N. Peters Ave. that is home to the Republican 6th District congressman's office.
Police said they have arrested a 19-year-old Menasha man, suspected of setting fire to a strip mall which has office space leased to U.S. Representative Glenn Grothman.
Grothman was among lawmakers who voted in favor of the legislation that would ban TikTok. Content creators like Seth Hatherly, who gained traction by documenting his move from North Carolina to Brown County, denounce the use of any violence of any sorts. However, he and others have concerns over what a TikTok ban could mean.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Prosecutors charged a Wisconsin man who allegedly told police he tried to burn down a congressman's office because he was upset with the federal TikTok ban with multiple counts on Wednesday, including arson.
The man contended the shutdown violated his constitutional rights and no longer believes peaceful protest is an option.
The fire began outside the building – which was unoccupied at the time – and caused minor damage before it was extinguished. No injuries were reported.
