Sebastian Stan's and Jeremy Strong's nominations at the Oscars were just as surprising as Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig's absence from the list.

Monica Barbaro landed a best supporting actress nomination for her role as Joan Baez in the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown. Overlooked by major awards like the Golden Globes, Barbaro edged out competitors like Selena Gomez (Emilia Pérez), entering the category as an underdog.

Other unexpected news in Thursday morning's announcement included no nominations for Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie or 'The Substance's' Margaret Qualley, while Monica Barbaro surprised.

In a crowded field of potential acting nominees, many big names and winners of other awards were shut out Thursday from the Academy Award nominations — and one made Oscars history.

The incarceration drama “Sing Sing” did get several significant nominations including for Colman Domingo, adapted screenplay and original song. But Clarence “Divine Eye” Maclin, who delivered a revelatory performance based on his own experience, was not among them. He is, however, credited with helping to write the story.
