Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum thanked her U.S. counterpart Donald Trump for exempting Mexican goods included in the USMCA from being impacted by tariffs
Following a discussion with Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum, Trump agrees to exempt Mexican goods from tariffs. Some tariffs on Canadian goods also were delayed.
As the deadline to avert Trump tariffs nears, President Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of the USMCA deal and her efforts to save it.
"Reciprocal tariffs will still go into effect on April 2. But at the request of the companies associated with USMCA, the president is giving them an exemption for one month, so they are not at an economic disadvantage," she added, referencing the North American free trade agreement Trump renegotiated in his first term.
"After speaking with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico, I have agreed that Mexico will not be required to pay Tariffs on anything that falls under the USMCA Agreement. This Agreement is until April 2nd.
