President Donald Trump says he's directing his government to reopen and expand Alcatraz, the notorious former prison on a California island that's been closed for more than 60 years.

Experts say the federal government would have to overcome enormous hurdles to turn Alcatraz back into a prison.

The proposal, which would be extraordinarily expensive and logistically challenging, drew derision from locals and tourists.
