A measles outbreak in Texas has infected over 250 people as of Friday, as cases of the highly contagious illness have been spotted in 15 states and already exceeded the total number of measles cases reported in 2024.

The measles outbreak in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma may continue for up to a year, Katherine Wells, DrPH, director of Lubbock Public Health in Texas, said in a press briefing March 18. During the briefing,

The director of public health for the city of Lubbock said Tuesday that uptake of the measles vaccine “has definitely been a struggle,” and that the outbreak will be "large."
