Some of New York’s wealthiest financiers are scrambling to build out a network of outside groups that plan to go to war against Democratic nominee for mayor Zohran Mamdani as a last stand against the surging progressive candidate.

The decision by a New York appeals court was a win for the City Council and a loss for Mayor Eric Adams, who had opposed the expansion, citing budget concerns.
