The Winnipeg Jets are the NHL's top overall seed, having finished the regular season with the most points in the standings, and the Washington Capitals earned the No. 1 seed in the East. Sixteen teams in total make the NBA playoffs, eight teams from both the Eastern and Western Conferences. The top six seeds in each conference advance based on the regular season record. The final two seeds in each conference are wild-card spots based on the best remaining records in each conference.

Toronto sent the game to overtime with a third-period equalizer, but the Panthers rebounded and picked up a huge win on home ice. The top seed in the Western Conference, the Winnipeg Jets, also picked up a win at home on Friday to get on the board in their series with the Dallas Stars.
