Manager Bob Melvin told reporters Sunday that Rafael Devers has been dealing with a groin issue ever since the Boston Red Sox traded him to the San Francisco Giants.

With his first homer as a Giant, a two-run, opposite-field shot, Devers powered San Francisco to a 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox — the only major-league team Devers had known for more than a decade. In Boston, Devers blossomed into one of baseball’s best players. In San Francisco, the Red Sox can only watch their former star from afar.

To address these offensive shortcomings, the Giants made a blockbuster move by trading for former Boston Red Sox designated hitter, Rafael Devers in exchange for Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison, and prospects James Tibbs III and Jose Bello. Devers has been slotted into the middle of San Francisco's order since his arrival.
