It's been a crazy 24 hours in the NHL, with the Carolina Hurricanes/Colorado Avalanche deal representing a major shift in the league which could change things up in both conferences.

The Carolina Hurricanes just pulled off the biggest trade in franchise history. In a three-team trade between Carolina, the Colorado Avalanche and the Chicago Blackhawks the Hurricanes took a swing for the fences.

The Colorado Avalanche has traded Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes, according to multiple reports. Rantanen is in the final year of his contract and can be an unrestricted free agent in July. He leads the Avs with 25 goals and has 64 points, which was sixth in the NHL entering Friday night’s games.
