Senate Bill 55 was also passed with some amendments. The bill invalidates certain types of driver's licenses if proof of "lawful presence in the United States" was not provided to get the license. Nineteen states provide this type of license. Some may indicate on the license that it is for 'driving privilege only, not valid for identification.'

Sponsors of three bills say their trip to the U.S.-Mexico border back in September, as well as discussions with law enforcement, led to drafting of the proposed legislation.
