The Atlanta Braves’ hopes of getting third baseman Austin Riley back in the near future have taken a step back. On Tuesday, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Gabe Burns reported that Riley experienced renewed soreness in his abdomen during a workout and is not expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list anytime soon.
The offense has been disappointing all year. It is averaging 4.2 runs per game, which ranks in the bottom half of the league. Although former All-Stars Marcell Ozuna and Ozzie Albies have underperformed, the Braves have been hurt recently by the unavailability of Austin Riley.
Chris Sale’s return to the Atlanta Braves is slowly approaching, but it will have to wait a little longer. Manager Brian Snitker confirmed Monday afternoon that another rehab assignment will be needed before he can come back. Sale will pitch on Saturday for Double-A Columbus.
