TSN's Pierre LeBrun and Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff reported Wednesday that the Flyers are "zeroing in" and "closing in" on hiring Tocchet as their next head coach, although it isn't yet official. The Flyers fired former head coach John Tortorella on March 27 with only nine games left in the regular season.

Tocchet won the Stanley Cup as an assistant with Pittsburgh in 2016 and ’17 and played more than a decade with Philadelphia in separate stints at the start and end of his career.

Rick Tocchet was hired as coach of the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday. He replaces John Tortorella, who was fired March 27. Brad Shaw served as interim coach for the final nine games of the season.
