Americans are spending their Memorial Day weekends at the movies, as box office data suggests this weekend is on track to be the highest-grossing Memorial Day weekend ever at the box office, with Disney’s live-action “Lilo & Stitch” remake taking in $183 million and beating out “Mission Impossible - The Final Reckoning.
"Lilo & Stitch" broke box office records on Memorial Day weekend. It's a quick change of fortune for Disney after their last live-action remake "Snow White" flopped.
Shares of AMC Entertainment surged after the company said the Memorial Day weekend saw one of its strongest box-office runs in the past decade. The stock was up 24% at $4.01 in the morning session. Shares are now in positive territory year to date.
