By Jeroslyn JoVonn Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal’s Othello broke Broadway records as the highest-grossing play revival but failed to secure Tony nominations announced May 1.

"Othello," starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, has recouped its entire investment after nine weeks on Broadway. Capitalized for up to $9 million, the show is now the highest-grossing play revival in history.

Othello opened at the Barrymore Theatre on March 23 and has sold out every performance. Attendees of the star-studded spring event included Gayle King, Samuel L. Jackson, Dr. Jill Biden and Former U.S. President Joe Biden, Ariana DeBose, Nia Long, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, and more.
