Swedish teenager Lucas Bergvall opened his Tottenham Hotspur account in thrilling fashion with the winner in Wednesday's League Cup semi-final first leg but should not even have been on the pitch according to Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool's 24-match unbeaten run has come to an end in the most unlikely fashion losing 1-0 to Tottenham in the first leg of the EFL Cup semifinal behind a goal from Lucas Bergvall. With the goal, Bergvall has become the youngest player to score for Tottenham in the EFL Cup since Gareth Bale in September of 2007.

Tottenham Hotspur need a win at home to Newcastle United on Saturday to take some pressure off of manager Ange Postecoglou as 2025 gets underway in London. Spurs drew with Wolverhampton Wanderers in their final English Premier League game of 2024 while the Magpies saw off Manchester United.
