Abuja, Nigeria, June 1, 2021 – The ECOWAS Commission organized an online meeting of Ministers responsible for Infrastructure, Transport, Telecommunication/ ICT, Energy and Water Resources sectors of ECOWAS Member States on June 1, 2021.

According to Article 3 of the Revised ECOWAS Treaty, one of the main objectives of ECOWAS is to promote the economic integration of the region by establishing, among other things, a Free Trade Area (FTA). The instrument created for this purpose is the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS).

ECOWAS Trade Information System (ECOTIS) is a centralized portal developed by the ECOWAS Commission to provide easily accessible, timely and relevant trade related information and intelligence for informed business decisions, policy formulation and academic research.

The objective of the ETLS is to liberalise trade by abolishing of customs duties levied on imports and exports and the elimination of non-tariff barriers among member states for the establishment of a free trade area at the community level.

Organization of e-Learning training programs for Member States in the areas of ICT, science education and teacher training as a means to promote and upgrade the science and ICT skills in the region.
