Sand Point is home to the largest fleet of commercial fishing vessels in the Aleutian region. Sand Point is located on northwestern Popof Island, off the Alaska Peninsula.

Sand Point has two playgrounds (one located at the school), a swimming pool (also at the school), and abundant hiking, recreational fishing, birdwatching, and other opportunities to explore and enjoy the surrounding of Popof Island.

Given the lack of road access to the city of Sand Point, the city dock is an essential component of infrastructure providing critical access between Sand Point and the Pacific Northwest region.

The all-weather Sand Point Airport is located 3 miles from the city core, and is operated and maintained by the State of Alaska. The asphalt runway was re-paved and lengthened in 2006, and is now 5,213 ft. x 150 ft. The airport code is 'SDP.' The Airport Layout Plan is available here.

TelAlaska has a cellular tower in Sand Point, as does AT&T, and GCI leases space on the existing public radio tower. Smartphone users will typically receive service through either AT&T or GCI. TelAlaska started delivering 3G cellular service in the community in the first quarter of 2016.

Sand Point Generating, LLC (SPG), a wholly owned subsidiary of TDX Power, owns and operates the Sand Point electric utility. The diesel plant includes four Caterpillar diesel engines with capacities between 400 kW and 900 kW, for a total generating capacity of 2.6 MW.
