Founded in 1946, CWI is part of the Institutes Organisation of NWO, NWO-I.While located at Amsterdam Science Park, our institute has strong international links, and we enjoy a global reputation for our innovative research.

Jul 6, 2022 · New strategic plan. On Wednesday 6 July 2022 CWI presented the new Strategic Plan 2022-2027. The Strategic Plan 2022-2027 outlines how CWI wants to realize its vision of advancing the scientific foundations of our digital society and supporting the national mathematics and computer science communities in the coming years.

Fundamental research in computer science and mathematics can make major contributions to important scientific and societal challenges. Research within CWI is organized in 15 research groups. They focus on four areas of fundamental research:. Algorithms: The digitalization of society and the omnipresence of computers bring new challenges and opportunities for algorithms.; Data and Intelligent Systems: The growth of data and increasingly complex processes require advances in data management and intelligent autonomous systems.
