A 101-year-old World War II veteran, Joseph Peterburs, took flight in Northern California in the same P-51 Mustang Plane he piloted more than 80 years ago. In 1944, he earned his pilot wings and was commissioned a second lieutenant all before he was 20-years-old and completed 49 combat missions during WWII. He was promoted to colonel in 1969 and retired 10 years later. He says this flight 46 years later carries special meaning. | ABC7 News

The Mustang was among the best and most well-known fighters used by the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. Possessing excellent range and maneuverability, the P-51 operated primarily as a long-range escort fighter and also as a ground attack fighter-bomber.
