The Japanese battleship Yamato featured the largest main guns in WWII history: nine 46 cm (18.1-inch) Type 94 guns, which were 20% more powerful than US Iowa-class 16-inch guns. These guns fired 1,460 kg (3,200 lb) armor-piercing shells at ranges exceeding 25 miles.
